Our Pukatea Whānau Day was a relaxed sunny and enjoyable day by the beach. I would like to acknowledge Haysley for doing all the cooking and to the office for organising a great day. The bouncy castle is definitely going to be around next year.
There is a lot of activity in Tuamātene currently. The construction of bathrooms to the wharemoe has started and improvements to the wharekai are underway. Both whare will be unavailable for the next month or so. The maara kai is going well and there are vegetables that need harvesting by whānau. Cauliflower, courgettes, corn, tomatoes and capsicums are ready for picking. Please take only enough for your whānau and any help weeding will be greatly appreciated.
We are currently engaged with council in developing the terms of reference for the talks associated with the Blenheim Sewerage Treatment Ponds. These will include the purpose of the rōpū, role, objectives, responsibilities, governance, meetings, membership and secretariat, and relationship to other groups. We’ll have more on this as it develops.
Waka ama is one of the fastest growing sports in the country with huge participations by schools and clubs. There has been a lot of kōrero about setting up waka ama for rangatahi in Wairau. This initiative would only work if we had a team of coaches and volunteers to coordinate and drive this initiative. We are seeking expressions of interest from members who would be prepared to help and contribute their time if we progressed this. Your support is critical if we are to make this happen.
We are busy developing the workplans for next year including activities and budget. We will announce the detail once this has been reviewed and approved by our trustees. I would like to thank our Kaikōkiri for their input and help with this.
