Manawa Energy Rangitāne Taiao Scholarship Opens 1 November 2025

Te taiao is a key strategic priority for Te Rūnanga a Rangitāne o Wairau Trust. Rangitāne aims to ensure the integrity and sustainability of te taiao, for current and future generations. Taiao objectives for Rangitāne include the following:

  • Protect and restore key sites of significance such as Te Pokohiwi-a-Kupe, Wairau Lagoons, Grovetown Lagoons, and the Wairau Bar, while promoting history.

  • Advocate for sustainable practices in land use, fisheries, and the Marlborough Sounds, and ensure the recognition and exercise of Rangitāne customary rights.

  • Prepare for climate change and its effects, supporting environmental sustainability and resilience.

  • Revive traditional practices like Maara Kai and hunting/gathering, for the benefit of whānau hauora.
