Hui-ā-Tau Weekend 2027

We warmly invite whānau to join us in Wairau for our Hui-ā-Tau 2027.

Our Hui-ā-Tau weekend will begin on Friday evening with Kawe Mate at Tuamātene Marae. On Saturday, we will gather at Ūkaipō for our Annual General Meeting, followed by a Whānau Fun Afternoon at Blenheim Indoor Sports, before coming together for our Evening Hākari at the Marlborough Event Centre.

Kawe Mate

Tuamātene Marae – 2518 State Highway 1, Grovetown

6:00pm – Kawe Mate proceedings commence
7:00pm – Kai o te pō

For whānau travelling from outside the rohe, if you intend to bring Kawe Mate home, please indicate this by selecting “Āe” or “Kao” on the Travel and Accommodation registration form. This information is important to help us make the necessary arrangements.

For hau kāinga who wish to bring Kawe Mate, please contact our office so the necessary arrangements can be made.

Hui-ā-Tau

9:00am-1:00pm
Ūkaipō – 1 Fell Street, Grovetown

9:00am – Doors open and voting booth opens
9:00am–9:45am – Morning tea available
10:00am – Annual General Meeting commences
12:30pm – Approximate conclusion of hui

At the conclusion of the AGM, there will be a light lunch served in the foyer, finger food style. There will be no tamariki activity or caregiving during the hui so please ensure they are taken care of.

Whānau Fun Afternoon

2:00pm–4:30pm
Blenheim Indoor Sports – 50 Battys Road

Following the hui, we invite whānau to join us for an afternoon of fun and whanaungatanga at Blenheim Indoor Sports.

We have booked ten-pin bowling and a court with bouncy castles for everyone to enjoy from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.

All whānau are welcome to attend. Please note that tamariki and rangatahi must be supervised by a parent or caregiver at all times and cannot be dropped off without supervision.

For whānau travelling from outside the rohe, please indicate whether you will be attending the Whānau Fun Afternoon by selecting “Āe” or “Kao” on the Travel and Accommodation registration form.

Evening Hākari

6:00pm–10:30pm
Marlborough Event Centre
18+ only

Join us as we round out Hui-ā-Tau 2027 with an evening of kai, entertainment and whanaungatanga.

There is no cost to attend the Hākari. A cash bar will be available for those who wish to purchase beverages.

Please note that the Evening Hākari is strictly for those aged 18 years and over. Tickets are essential and bookings close on 6 January 2027. There will be NO door sales.

Travel and Accommodation

Travel assistance is available to registered iwi members aged 18 years and over who reside in Aotearoa and are travelling from outside the rohe to attend Hui-ā-Tau.

Option 1 – North Island: Organised Travel

Levin – Wellington – Wairau and return

Bus: Levin to the Bluebridge Ferry Terminal – Friday, 22 January 2027
Ferry: Wellington to Picton – Friday, 22 January 2027
Bus: Picton to Wairau
Return: Picton to Wellington to Levin – Sunday, 24 January 2027

Accommodation: Accommodation is available at Tuamātene Marae and Ūkaipō. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-in, first-served basis.

Kaumātua accommodation: Limited accommodation is also available for kaumātua aged 60 years and over.

Option 2 – North Island: Travel Reimbursement

Registered adult iwi members aged 18 years and over who arrange their own travel from the North Island may apply for a $120 travel reimbursement per person.
 

Option 3 – South Island: Travel Reimbursement

Registered adult iwi members aged 18 years and over who arrange their own travel from the South Island may apply for the following travel reimbursement:
  • $50 per vehicle travelling from Whakatū (Nelson)
  • $120 per vehicle travelling from elsewhere in the South Island, outside Te Tauihu
  • $120 per adult iwi member travelling by bus, train or plane from within the South Island, outside Te Tauihu

If you wish to access organised travel, accommodation or travel assistance, you must complete the Hui-ā-Tau 2027 Travel and Accommodation registration form.

Whānau applying for travel reimbursement must also complete the physical form available at Ūkaipō on the day. Please ensure you attach receipts and proof of purchase.

Important: Registrations for travel close on Monday, 14 December 2026. Requests received after this date will not be processed. Whānau who miss the deadline will need to arrange their own travel and may apply for travel reimbursement following the Hui-ā-Tau.

We encourage whānau travelling to Wairau to make their arrangements as early as possible, particularly where accommodation is required.

Livestream

If you can't make it to Hui-ā-Tau 2027 in person, we’ve got you covered. Whānau are invited to join us online via our Hui-ā-Tau livestream.

Livestream starts: 9:45am
Annual General Meeting commences: 10:00am

A chat function will be available during the livestream, giving whānau the opportunity to submit pātai during meeting.
