Te Tauihu
Te Tauihu o Te Waka-a-Māui
Installed as part of the Tuia 250 commemorations, the Tauihu stands as a powerful representation of Māori whakapapa and voyaging heritage. Tuia 250 marked 250 years since the first onshore encounters between Māori and Europeans, honouring the traditions of Pacific navigation and the enduring legacy of Māori explorers. It was a nationwide event that acknowledged both the achievements and challenges of our shared history, fostering dialogue, learning, and reflection for Aotearoa’s future. The Tauihu, with its deep ancestral significance, ensures that these narratives continue to be recognised and celebrated.
