On 25 March Rangitāne, alongside Ngā Iwi e Waru o Te Tauihu, welcomed Her Excellency Dame Cindy onto Whakatū Marae with a beautiful pōwhiri to open her time in Nelson.

We acknowledge and thank our kaumātua and kuia for their leadership and manaakitanga in supporting this welcome, and for upholding the tikanga and kawa of Whakatū Marae. We also acknowledge the haukāinga and rangatahi who made the day run so smoothly.

The pōwhiri marked the beginning of Her Excellency’s visit to the region, where she spent time with local communities, organisations and places that reflect the strength, care and contribution of our people.
